How I Work

I create valid, clean, and intuitive sites using XHTML, CSS, Javascript, and Microformats. If you need a CMS, I specialize in WordPress, but am perfectly happy using TextPattern, Drupal, and Expression Engine as well.

The approach I use to manage a project flows in a number of steps. I use this system even for small sites in order to foster open communication at every stage.

  • Initial discussion and brainstorming - The first session is just an information dump, getting familiar with the needs and requirements for the project. What I learn from this initial session incubates in my noggin' while I do some additional research and start brainstorming ideas.
  • Wireframe and mockups - for sites that are heavy in content I generally create a wireframe before launching into the design mockup, which allows us to look at the skeleton for the site and ensure no components have been overlooked. For most WordPress themes and smaller sites, I skip the wireframe and go straight to the design mockup.
  • Revisions - the mockups and wireframes go through a couple revisions in order to get things ready for development. After sign-off, I begin implementing the site.
  • Implementation and testing - using the wireframes, design mockups, and additional information from the initial discussion, I code up your site, testing in all major modern browsers as I go.
  • The handover - That's it! The site is ready to go live! I don't bugger off at this point though. I like to watch a site for a week or two, making sure things are going smoothly and answering any additional questions you may have.

How Much?

Depends on the project, scope, and what's involved (naturally). I generally work for a flat fee, though for consulting services, I charge hourly. If you are looking for a quick solution for WordPress but don't want the full customization I offer, there are a number of premium themes available for a reasonable price. If you are looking for a fully custom solution, catering directly to your needs and requirements, then definitely get in touch with me and we'll start up a conversation.

If the project is right, I've also been known to work for beer. Good beer. Again, get in touch with me!

Please note, I do require an up-front fee, 50% for smaller projects, 30% for larger ones. And a couple six-packs if it's a beer fueled project...
